Position Overview:

We are seeking a skilled Quality Electrical Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will excel in diagnosing and resolving product failures, driving quality improvements, and ensuring high standards in manufacturing processes including both External Quality-Customer returns & Internal Quality-NCR, MRB, FPY, Production Support. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, systematic problem-solving, and clear communication to support our commitment to delivering reliable products to the customers.

  Key Responsibilities: Failure Analysis and Testing
  • Test returned product using standard processes, evaluate results against criteria, and assess performance to identify issues.
  • Investigate customer-reported failures, deeply analyzing potential failure modes and identifying root causes down to the component level.
  • Classify failure symptoms and root causes to enable statistical analysis and predict potential failure trends.
  • Differentiate between isolated and systematic issues, escalating when necessary to address recurring problems effectively.
Documentation and Reporting
  • Write detailed reports capturing unit information, test results, data analysis, and identified root causes with a focus on accuracy and clarity.
  • Generate analytical reports, including MTBF, Pareto charts of failure modes, aging analysis, troubleshooting time, and repair costs.
  • Create and maintain quality process documents and work instructions to ensure consistent, high-quality execution by team members.
  • Provide data for Quality KPIs, scorecards, and Monthly Management Reports, supporting Cost of Poor Quality (CoPQ) initiatives.
Quality and Process Improvement
  • Conduct risk assessments to identify potential hazards or failure points in manufacturing processes, developing and implementing mitigation plans to uphold quality standards.
  • Collaborate with procurement and production teams to develop repair lists and quotes, ensuring components meet factory specifications.
  • Maintain robust record-keeping practices to support quality processes and compliance.
Requirements
  • Degree in Electrical, Computer or related Engineering field. Registered with APEGA as a P.Eng. and 4+ years of industry experience preferred.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting schematic drawings, electrical circuits, PCB layouts, and both analog and digital signals.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, with the ability to understand mechanical drawings and assess how component changes impact performance.
  • Expertise in using laboratory equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, hi-pot tester and LCR meters.
  • Basic knowledge of firmware (C or C++) and its expected behavior.
  • Clear and concise communication skills for client-facing documentation, with judgement in managing sensitive information.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams to drive quality improvements and solve complex problems.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing principles and industry standards like IPC (preferred).
  • Knowledge of PCB, PCBA, wire harness, and cable assembly manufacturing processes.
  • Basic understanding of magnetic field interactions.
  • Proficiency in formal problem-solving methodologies such as 7QC tools, 5-Why, and 8D.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with various organizational levels and suppliers.
